Child Sexual Abuse: From Healthy Development to Forensic Medical Evaluation

10 AASECT Approved Credit Hours
Next Session: Oct 31/Nov 1, 2026
Cost: $625 no CE/$675 w CE

AASECT categories: B, G, H, J, A

Led by Dr. Verena Brown, a board-certified child abuse pediatrician and AASECT-certified sexuality educator, this two-day intensive gives AASECT-certified educators, counselors, and therapists the full clinical picture, from healthy child sexual developement to the forensic medicine involved in a child sexual abuse work-up.

Day One builds the foundation: what healthy sexual development actually looks like from infancy through adolescence, how to recognize problematic sexual behavior without over-pathologizing normal curiosity, and how trauma physiology explains the disclosures, delays, and inconsistencies that too often get misread as doubt.

Day Two goes where most CE trainings won't: inside the medical exam room. You'll learn why most exams are normal even after confirmed abuse, what the forensic evidence process actually involves, how STIs factor into an evaluation, and critically, how to help survivors and families understand all of it without shame or confusion.

You'll leave with the clinical fluency to recognize, respond to, and support cases of child sexual abuse with confidence, grounded in current, peer-reviewed research, not outdated assumptions.

Coming Soon-STI Deep Dive: What Every Sexuality Professional Should Actually Know

A 3-hour CE intensive · Live Online · 3 AASECT CE Credits
AASECT categories: H, A, O

STIs come up constantly in this work — in intake forms, in disclosures, in the questions clients are too embarrassed to ask their doctor but will ask you. And yet most professionals outside of medicine were never given more than the basics: names, a vague sense of "treatable" vs. "not," and not much else.

This course closes that gap.

This deep dive moves organism by organism through the STIs your clients are actually living with, what they are, how they present, how they're diagnosed and treated, and just as importantly, what a diagnosis does and doesn't mean about a person, their relationships, or their history.

You'll leave able to talk about STIs with clinical accuracy and without the shame-based framing so much of this information still carries, a skill that matters whether you're supporting an anxious client after a new diagnosis, helping someone navigate disclosure to a partner, or simply making sure your own knowledge is current.

What you'll cover:

  • Current epidemiology and who's actually most affected

  • Transmission, symptoms, and diagnosis across major STIs

  • Treatment basics — enough to have an informed, accurate conversation, not to replace a physician

  • What test results can and can't tell you, and how to help clients interpret them without panic or shame

  • How to talk about STIs with clients in a way that's medically sound and genuinely supportive

Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like. And yes, it's exactly as fun as it sounds.

Four times a year, we gather ,from our own kitchens, wherever that is, to cook, laugh, and dig into something we don't talk about nearly enough: the real, science-backed connection between what we eat and how we feel in our bodies, our desire, and our relationships.

This isn't a lecture with a recipe stapled to it. It's a genuinely hands-on culinary medicine experience, you'll cook a real meal in real time, guided step-by-step, while we cover the evidence on nutrition, cardiovascular health, hormones, and the foods that actually support sexual wellness. All through Dr. Verena Brown's lens as both a physician and a sexuality educator, because someone has to make sure the science is as good as the food.

Expect good food, good science, and good company. You'll walk away with a finished meal, nutrition knowledge you can actually use, and language to bring these conversations into your own practice because "does this food help my sex life?" is a question your clients are already Googling, and they deserve a better answer than whatever came up on TikTok.

What to expect each session:

  • A themed seasonal menu, cooked live together

  • The science behind the ingredients: nutrition, hormones, circulation, and sexual health

  • Time for questions, conversation, and connection

  • A shopping list sent in advance, so you're ready to cook when we start

Coming Soon-Embodied: Reclaiming the Body After Trauma

A 4-hour CE experience · Live Online · 4 AASECT CE Credits
AASECT categories: M, J, O, I

Trauma doesn't just live in the mind. It lives in the body, in the muscles that stay braced, the breath that stays shallow, the pleasure that stays just out of reach long after the danger has passed.

This course is an invitation back into the body, using the wisdom of tantra as a guide.

We'll start with the science: how trauma, chronic and toxic stress, and even inherited experience change the nervous system and disconnect us from physical sensation, and why "just relax" was never going to be enough. From there, we'll move into tantra-informed embodiment practice: breath and the five senses as pathways back into the body, not as performance, but as reconnection.

This is experiential, not just theoretical. Through guided breathwork and a five-senses meditation practice, you'll be led through real exercises — not just taught about them — so you leave with tools you've actually felt in your own body, ready to bring into your work with clients navigating their own path back to embodiment.

A note before you join: this course engages directly with trauma, the body, and pleasure. It's held as a safe, brave space, participation in shared exercises is invited, never required.

What you'll experience:

  • The nervous system science of trauma, toxic stress, and disembodiment

  • Tantra-informed breathwork for nervous system regulation

  • A guided five-senses meditation practice for reconnecting body and memory

  • Tools you can adapt for trauma-informed work with your own clients
