Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I'm so excited to announce that the new podcast, Sentient Anatomy, is finally here! For our first episode, I'm so very happy to be joined by my friend Dr. Betty Kramer, PhD, Lama Chonyi. In this season of family and merriment, we also find that we may be mourning and missing those whom we have lost. This episode delves into mindful grieving, and how we can be more present to our lives every day.
Dr. Betty J. Kramer (Lama Chonyi) is a Professor Emeritus of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a nationally recognized gerontology researcher, scholar and educator who specializes in palliative and end-of-life care, dementia, family caregiving and grief and bereavement. She is co-author of the first evidence-based textbook to profile grief and bereavement interventions for human service professionals entitled Living Through Loss: Interventions Across the Life-Span (2006). As the recipient of two national awards, Dr. Kramer received support to implement several projects relevant to improving palliative and end-of-life care. She is the recipient of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) Distinguished Researcher Award (2008).
In addition, she has 35 years of experience with various forms of meditation, a long-standing interest in Eastern perspectives on mental health, and is a practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism. Dr. Kramer/Lama Chonyi is a teacher for Joyful Path Healing Center in Madison Wisconsin and is an ordained senior student and Lama within White Conch Dharma Center.
